5/14/2018 0 Comments Prompts workshopDuring this unit we took some time to focus on prompts. There were five individual prompts with a combination of two or more of them as a final project. The five prompts were nuts and bolts, things that run on and off, industry, things that run around, and nature. We were given a prompt at the beginning of the class and we had to complete the assignment by the end of the class. There wasn't anything to hold back from because we were given complete control of what we wanted to create. The artistic behaviors really came into play here because we were able to do anything we wanted and I really enjoyed that. In this class the main focus is to draw and create new pieces, but class seems more productive when there is something to work off of. This meant that many people were taking risks myself included. With having a prompt it's also easier to create original art work because it's not just doing something to keep busy, instead it's doing something that you want to do and that's what I really enjoyed about this unit.

Thiebaud effortlessly drew these amazing representations of food that is so easy to learn how to do. In my works of art I wanted to capture every spot of the food I was drawing. To create these works of art we used oil pastels that mix and combine very well with other colors of the pastels. Over this unit I learned how to better mix oil pastels and I learned how to create food from a drawing perspective. 3/16/2018 0 Comments trompe L'oeilTrompe L'oeil took everyday objects and made them into magnificent works of art. He used his eye and his skill to created realistic looking objects on paper. During this unit we created our own masterpiece to recreate by drawing. Some techniques we used were using a ruler to find the distance between surrounding object and the edge of the paper. This unit really taught me how to use only my eye to create everyday object, and how to use what's around the objects in reference to the objects around the others. Although I enjoyed this unit I do believe that we weren't 100 percent prepared for it because we kind of just jumped right into it. I know that we have been drawing all years far, but we have never had to draw everyday objects, and I believe if we had more practice to understand how to draw objects I would have enjoyed this project much more than I did. 2/16/2018 0 Comments embroideryTHIS UNIT WE FOCUSED ON EMBROIDERY. EMBROIDERY INVOLVES MANY STEPS THAT AREN’T HARD TO FOLLOW. THE FIRST THING TO DO WHEN EMBROIDERING IF TO PUT THE TAN/BEIGE MATERIAL THAT WAS FOR OUR EMBROIDERY INTO THE FAITH RINGGOLD. OUR SAMPLE EMBROIDERY HAD TO CONTAIN AT LEAST 6 OF THE 8 DIFFERENT STITCHES THAT WE HAD LEARNED HOW TO DO. FOR THE EMBROIDERY FLOSS WE JUST USED REGULAR STRING THAT IS COMMONLY USED AS FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS. BASICALLY IF YOU KNOW HOW TO SEW YOU KNOW HOW TO EMBROIDER. YOU JUST HAVE TO PUT THE STRING THROUGH THE NEEDLE, WHICH COULD BE DONE WITH OR WITHOUT A SPECIAL TOOL. THE SPECIAL TOOL IS FIRST PUT THROUGH THE NEEDLE AND THEN PUT THE STRING THROUGH THE TOOL TOOP AND PULL IT THROUGH. DURING THIS EMBROIDERY LESSON I ENJOYED LEARNING HOW TO MAKE MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF PATTERNS AND STITCHES WITH SIMPLE STEPS. I ALSO ENJOYED HOW CALMING IT WAS. WHENEVER EMBROIDERING IT FEELS NICE JUST TO SIT AND WORK AND ENJOY MYSELF WHILE THREADING NEEDLE TO MAKE SOMETHING AMAZING. 12/25/2017 0 Comments one Point perspectiveFOR THE PAST MONTH OR SO WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON ONE POINT PERSPECTIVES. A ONE POINT PERSPECTIVE IS LIKE LOOKING AT A ROAD AND SEEING IT GET SMALLER AND SMALLER IN THE DISTANCE. IN THIS UNIT I HAVE LEARNED HOW TO CREATE A CITY SCENERY IN WHICH THE ROAD OF THE CITY GETS SMALLER AND AS THE BUILDING ARE STILL VISIBLE IN THE DISTANCE. I HAVE ALSO LEARNED HOW TO CREATE A ROOM SCENE WITH A COUCH, A FIREPLACE, AND A CHRISTMAS TREE. THERE ARE MANY WAYS THAT ARTISTS CAN SHOW DEPTH. ONE WAY IS THAT THEY MAKE THINGS APPEAR SMALLER IN THE BACKGROUND OF THE DRAWING. ANOTHER WAY IS CHIAROSCURO AND THAT IS WHEN SHADING IS USED TO MAKE A PERSPECTIVE.
11/28/2017 0 Comments potteryThroughout November we have been working on pottery and so far these pieces I have made have been some of my favorites yet. Clay is formed from erosion of rock silicates. When handbuilding with clay you pinch, slab, and coil. The materials needed for working with clay are a placemat, water/sponge, a needle tool, and clay. The pottery stages of clay are wet clay that is the easiest to work with to leather hard that cannot bend, but can attach with scoring and slipping. That goes to bone dry to it being fired in the kiln and become bisque which is no longer clay and after all of that you glaze your final product. Although pottery is extremely fun there are some rules to go along with the process. The first rule is soft clay cannot be attached to hard clay. The second rule is pieces of clay must be scored with a needle or brush and painted with slip to be “glued” together. The third rule is clay must not be thicker than 1” and hollow pieces must have a hole for air to escape. The fourth rule is that unnatural bending will result in cracks when drying. The fifth rule is uncovered clay is drying clay KEEP IT COVERED! The sixth and final rule is that clay shrinks as it dries. During this pottery unit I learned skills on how to sculpt clay and I created original art by using my imagination.
10/23/2017 0 Comments mfa: portrait- I hear the calming noise of the animals around the flowing water.
- I smell the fresh fruit tree - I love there are many different species of animals brought to one calming space. - I have seen the river flowing and connecting into all the streams. - I want to stay here forever. - I feel I’m apart of the everyday life of those animals in their own habitat. Sean The Garden of Eden Erastus Salisbury Field (American, 1805–1900) August 9, 4000bc - Job: to pick the fresh fruit coming from the trees. - Hobbies: Picking fruit and eating the fruit. - What are you doing today? I am picking the fruit off the tree before they become rotten. - Where are you? I am in the jungle. - Who is with you? My brother is with me. 10/23/2017 0 Comments MFA: LAndscape- I hear the bolt of lightning mixing with strong, uncontrollable wind.
- I smell the muggy scent of rain that come in the summer. - I need for the lightning bolt to be more exaggerated coming through the clouds. - I am going to imagine what it would feel like to be those people. - I feel that everything going on connects together on what the painter is trying to tell. - I want the other barn door in the right hand corner of the painting to be flying open from the wing. Dear Hailey, I am writing to you from Running Before The Storm by an unknown artist. This painting makes me feel like I’m being sucked into a roaring tornado. There is a huge thunderstorm coming over from the ocean onto land. All I can smell is the muggy rain that always comes with the humid summer rain. Everything in the painting ties together from the detail from the woman taking down the clothing from outside from the wind stirring the dirt and dust everywhere on what the artist tried to show. From, Mackenzie 10/18/2017 0 Comments watercolor landscapeNew techniques that I have learned are how to blend watercolor together to get the background of a sunset. I came up with this idea by thinking that the sky of the sunset would be a cool experience on how to blend three different colors together. Before creating this piece of artwork I didn’t realize that there are different ways to get different shades of the same colors just using water. In my piece I took a risk and tried using purple and orange blended together to get a part of the sky and that was a risk because purple is a dark color and orange is a light color and mixing them is difficult.
